This piece aims to acknowledge how female figures have always held powerful mythological sway over our conceptions of life and death. The Moirai - Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos - were responsible for spinning, measuring and cutting the thread of life.

In this piece, the thread is reimagined as a modern ECG trace. The trace shows asystole, and the doctor and her team attempt to repair the thread using an electrical conductor that will enable defibrillation (though I wish to note here that this is in fact a misconception reinforced in popular culture - asystole, which shows as a flatline on a trace, is a non-shockable rhythm, as a such does not respond to defibrillation).

The relative size disparity between the female Fates and the all-female medical team recognises how far modern medicine has progressed. No longer does it take a goddess of mythic proportions to manipulate life, just hard work, knowledge, and collaboration - the mythical becomes mundane, but is no less impressive for it.
