The Wandering Womb
As accredited
Hysteria, a supposedly female-specific condition involving emotional instability, was at one time attributed to the wandering, displaced uterus causing dysfunction. As part of our exhibition, tying together key themes around the historic relationship between women and the medical profession and how we can learn from past injustices, we wish to reclaim this term. Contributors were invited to submit works representing the uterus in whatever medium of their choice to be part of a collaborative piece titled 'The Wandering Womb'.
These diverse wombs are interspersed throughout the space, from a varied group of contributors, each accredited under their contribution and this title.
Visitors are also welcome to use the materials available to contribute their own depiction of the womb to the exhibition.
